Waters and Beaches of the Flathead

with a peak temperature of 78ºF, Whitefish Lake is ideal for swimming and water sports, along with boating. Whitefish City Beach is located 1 mile West of Downtown Whitefish -- only a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk. The best months for visiting are June-September when the water is warmest.
Flathead Lake
Flathead Lake is ideal for sailing and boating, and some water sports, with some shallow locations ideal for swimming in the summer. The peak temperature is 56-68ºF. Fishing can also be quite rewarding. Flathead Lake is located south of Whitefish -- with the public access locations between 30-42 minutes from downtown Whitefish. Find Boat Rentals in Bigfork or Lakeside. Or drive to Wayfarers Park to jump into the lake!
with a peak warmth of 86ºF, Dickey Lake is ideal for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, and other water sports. There is also a public boat ramp for boats. Dickey Lake is located 34 minutes West of Downtown Whitefish. The best months for visiting are mid-May to September when the water is at it's best temperatures.
Foys Lake is a small lake near Whitefish, and has a dedicated swimming area. It's best for quieter lake sports such as paddle boarding, kayaking, and fishing. The peak temperature is 66-81ºF between May and September. It is only a 20-minute drive south of Downtown Whitefish, and it's a wonderful place to have a picnic after a day on the water!
Our Reservoir is a large, mountainous, and stunning lake. It is significantly larger and therefore has a peak temperature of 75° on average in the summer months. It's located over the massive Dam in Hungry Horse, on the way to Glacier National Park. It can be a great place to experience some fast boating and water sports. You'll also experience spectacular views.
